Pumpkin before Halloween: how Korean seasonal promotions actually work

Pumpkin lines sell best in autumn, and the factories know it. But a Korean promotion is rarely a discount, and the holiday calendar decides when the order has to leave.

Pumpkin in Korean skincare is not seasonal decoration but working raw material: enzymes, vitamins and gentle exfoliation. It does sell best in autumn, though, and interest peaks around Halloween.

Factories know this and tune the order terms to the season rather than the formula. For a buyer that means autumn rewards not the hardest negotiator but whoever sent the order in time.

Why a seasonal promotion has a short window

A seasonal promotion at a Korean manufacturer lasts about a month, not a quarter. It is anchored to the date the goods must be on the shelf and counted backwards: production, shipment, sea freight, customs clearance, distribution to points of sale. At FAU the promotion covers the Shiny Pumpkin and Glow Pumpkin lines and runs from 7 September to 6 October 2026.

Hence a rule the factory's letter does not show: the promotion is not worth taking for everyone. If sea freight to your port takes six weeks, goods ordered in the final week of the promotion arrive after the season. The terms then buy stock for next year, and they should be calculated that way rather than as an urgent purchase.

How a Korean promotion differs from a discount

A Korean factory rarely touches the price list. Instead of cutting the price it gives free goods, usually through two mechanics. The first is tied to the item: for a set quantity of one product the factory adds free units of the same product. The second is tied to the order value: a share of the total is issued as free goods, and the buyer chooses which items.

The reason is simple. The price list stays the same across markets, so the factory creates no difficulty for itself in the next conversation with another distributor. And the buyer gets something more useful than a discount: free units work as testers, as a gift inside a set, and as stock for the therapist who will recommend the line.

Such an offer needs careful arithmetic, because free goods and a discount of the same size do not give the same result. If one free unit comes with twelve paid, you receive thirteen for the price of twelve and the unit cost falls by roughly seven and a half per cent, although the free unit itself is eight per cent of the paid quantity. The gap is small but visible at volume, and the purchase calculation deserves the correct figure.

The holidays when the factory is closed

The Korean calendar has two long breaks: Chuseok in autumn and Lunar New Year. The plant and the office close for several days, not one. FAU has stated that it is closed on 24 and 25 September 2026.

Two things follow for a buyer. First, an order sent on the eve of a holiday starts being processed after it, so those days are added to the production time. Second, factories hit a shipping peak before a holiday and carriers are busier than usual.

So an autumn order is best placed to reach the factory before the holiday stop rather than on its first day.

What to ask the manufacturer

The promotion calendar for the year. Most factories have one, and then purchasing can be planned instead of reacting to a letter that arrives mid-month.

Whether free items may be chosen freely or must match the paid ones. This decides whether the free units land where they are needed.

Whether free units count towards the minimum order and the order value. The answer changes the calculation.

Whether promotional stock is limited. If it is, the order date matters more than the closing date of the promotion.

And four timings: production, shipment, freight and holiday stops inside the chosen window. Together they decide whether the goods reach the season.

The terms of the current FAU promotion we pass on request: they depend on volume and order format, which is why they are not published on the page.
